SteelSeries Arctis Companion: Mobile App

This project began at SteelSeries as part of a broader business strategy to enter a new market segment and address the specific needs of console gamers who use SteelSeries headsets. The mobile application enables users to choose from over 150 custom EQ presets tailored for individual games, while also offering on-the-go control over all available headset settings. It includes a wide range of microphone customization options designed to deliver a premium communication experience. The product continues to evolve, expanding support for every new headset and its unique features.

I led the design from the project's inception through its development and ongoing evolution.

App is currently available on both iOS and Android app stores

Year

2024-2025

The primary challenge for this project was establishing a brand-new design system and building a dedicated team to support each new hardware release. The fast-paced schedule and fixed launch dates demanded lean design decision-making and agile processes. This often included guerrilla-style user testing to quickly validate designs, ensuring they addressed user needs while also meeting both business goals and hardware requirements.

Every slider, control, list, and setting was thoroughly tested with users and iterated over time to arrive at a design solution that truly met their needs.

The functional differences between each new piece of hardware and its unique feature set required a flexible design approach. We built the application around a core structure with adaptable patterns that could evolve to meet the needs of every headset and earbud user. This flexibility enabled us to quickly integrate new features without disrupting the core user experience, ensuring that users—regardless of the device they owned—could navigate and use the app with ease.

Due to various constraints, not every design solution could be tested directly with users. However, we continue to iterate and improve with each release, driven by a commitment to go beyond the bare minimum and deliver a truly refined user experience.

Even in its early stages, the mobile application was honored as a Platinum winner at the MUSE Design Awards. Link
